The Wonderful Olivia
We are pleased to introduce you to the wonderful Olivia Kern, OTR! Olivia is an occupational therapist at our Southlake clinic and has worked at PediaPlex since August 2018.
About Olivia
Olivia is an occupational therapist at our Southlake PediaPlex location. She received her bachelor’s degree and her master’s degree from Texas Tech University in Lubbock. In her free time, you can find her spending time with her family and friends, reading, traveling, and cheering on the Texas Tech Red Raiders! A fun facts fact about Olivia is that she swam with pigs at Pig Island in the Bahamas and she has also seen a herd of wild kangaroos in Australia!
Working at PediaPlex
Before Olivia was hired at PediaPlex as an occupational therapist, she interned as a graduate student with us! We absolutely love when one of our past grad students comes back and joins our team! Olivia’s favorite part about working at PediaPlex is the collaborative environment and all of the other awesome therapists that she gets to work with and learn from.
“I also love working with the whole family unit and seeing kids who have worked so hard on their goals finally meet them! I love to share in their joy and smiles when they say things like, ‘I can tie my shoes!‘”
Olivia says that she always knew she wanted to work in healthcare because she always wanted to help others. Once she was in college at Texas Tech, she learned about occupational therapy and that’s how she knew it was the right career for her. “I love that we look at the patient using a holistic approach and help them become more independent with activities they do every single day!”
Occupational Therapy
An occupational therapist is a type of therapist that can work with either with kids or adults. An OT can help with physical, sensory, or cognitive problems and can help children/adults regain independence in all areas of their lives. Pediatric occupational therapy at PediaPlex will help kids to:
- improve sensory processing skills,
- develop fine motor skills so that they can grasp and release toys,
- develop good handwriting or computer skills,
- improve eye-hand coordination so they can play and perform necessary skills such as dribbling a ball and copying from a blackboard, and
- master basic life skills such as getting dressed, tying their shoes, and brushing their teeth.
Occupational therapy can help kids reach full their potential!
If your child has difficulties with handwriting, tying shoes, cutting on a dotted line, or other fine motor skills, they might benefit from occupational therapy. With offices located in Southlake, Fort Worth, and Frisco you are able to conveniently receive therapy for your child.
